Shopify Store SEO

What is Shopify store SEO?

Shopify store SEO is the work of making a Shopify or Shopify Plus store easy for Google, Bing and AI assistants to crawl, understand and rank. Besides the products and collections you sell, it deals with the platform itself: fixed URL prefixes, Liquid theme templates, app scripts, auto-generated sitemaps and Shopify Markets for selling abroad.

Shopify gets a store online quickly, but its defaults are not tuned for search. Many themes link products through collection paths, so one item lives at two or more addresses, and tag pages add more. Apps inject scripts into every page, some long after removal. None of this shows in the admin; it shows in Search Console and slow mobile pages.

Many Indian brands started on Shopify: coffee roasters, candle and stationery makers, toy and gifting stores, shipping across India and to the Gulf, UK and US. Most do not need a new platform. They need someone who can edit Liquid, trim the app list and configure Markets, with SEO decided as part of that work.

The challenge

Where Shopify stores lose rankings

Shopify SEO problems tend to come from the theme, the apps and the platform's defaults. These five are the most common, and each has a fix in code or settings.

  1. The problem

    One product, several URLs

Many themes link a product as /collections/gifts/products/candle-set as well as /products/candle-set. The canonical tag helps, but internal links still point at the extra paths.

    How we fix it

We edit the product card snippet so internal links use the clean /products/ address, then check tag pages and ?variant= links in Search Console.

  2. The problem

    App bloat slows every page

Reviews, upsell, chat and pop-up apps each load their own JavaScript and CSS. Uninstalled apps often leave snippets in theme.liquid that keep loading.

    How we fix it

We measure each app's script weight, delete leftover snippets, move to theme app blocks where possible and replace small apps with a few lines of Liquid.

  3. The problem

SEO settings hidden in theme code

Headings, title tags and meta descriptions are often hard-coded in Liquid. A theme might wrap the logo in an H1 on every page.

    How we fix it

Our developers fix the templates once in a duplicate theme, test them on a preview link and publish only after you approve, so every product and collection benefits.

  4. The problem

    Duplicated or broken structured data

The theme prints one Product schema block, a reviews app adds a second, and neither carries brand, GTIN or shipping details.

    How we fix it

One clean JSON-LD block per template, with Product, Offer and BreadcrumbList data drawn from your product fields and metafields, and review data only from genuine reviews.

  5. The problem

    International versions that confuse Google

Shopify Markets creates country subfolders, currencies and translations. Forced geolocation redirects and half-translated pages can hide versions from crawlers.

    How we fix it

We decide which countries get their own subfolder, check the hreflang tags, swap forced redirects for a country selector and translate the pages that matter first.

What we do

Shopify SEO Services We Offer

Six services that work inside your Shopify admin and theme code. Most stores start with technical clean-up, because one template fix improves every page using it.

  • Technical Shopify SEO

We fix duplicate collection paths, tag and filter URLs, robots.txt.liquid rules and redirect chains. Changes go into a duplicate theme first.
    • Product link fixes in theme snippets
    • robots.txt.liquid and filter crawl rules
    • URL redirect clean-up in the admin
  • Theme speed & app clean-up

Slow Shopify stores usually carry too many apps, oversized banner images and render-blocking scripts. We measure what each one costs and remove what you do not need.
    • App-by-app script weight audit
    • Leftover app code removed from theme files
    • Responsive images through the image_url filter
  • Collection & product page SEO

Collections need a short intro and unique titles; products need original copy. Templates that read from metafields keep long catalogues consistent.
    • Keyword map for collections and products
    • Collection intros and buyer FAQs
    • Metafield-driven product title and description templates
  • Theme structured data

We merge duplicate schema from the theme and apps into one valid block. Then we add the fields Google reads for product rich results and free listings.
    • Single Product and Offer JSON-LD per template
    • Shipping and return details in markup and feed
    • Google & YouTube channel feed checks
  • Shopify Markets & international SEO

For stores selling abroad, we set up Markets subfolders, currencies and translations. Each country sees the right page, and Google can index every version.
    • Country and subfolder plan for Markets
    • hreflang and country selector checks
    • Translated titles, handles and meta fields
  • GEO / AI search visibility

ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI features read your product pages, policies and feeds when shoppers ask what to buy. We make those facts clear, consistent and easy to cite.
    • Answer-first copy on key collections
    • Policy and shipping pages AI tools can read
    • Monthly checks of AI shopping answers

Trust & compliance

Trust Signals and Compliance for Shopify Stores

Shoppers and Google both check whether a store looks real and keeps its word. Shopify makes some of this easy, but the details are still yours to get right.

Policies written for your store

Refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages should describe how your store really works, not a generated template. Your legal adviser confirms the wording.

Seller and contact details

Your legal business name, address, phone and grievance contact sit on a proper contact page and match your Merchant Center business details.

Reviews from real orders

Shopify review apps can import or edit reviews. We only use reviews requested from real orders after delivery, and low ratings stay visible.

Label details on product pages

For pre-packaged goods, product pages show the main declarations from the label, such as MRP, net quantity and country of origin. Metafields keep them consistent across variants.
  • Refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages completed and linked from the footer
  • Grievance officer name and contact on the contact page
  • MRP, net quantity and country of origin on pre-packaged product pages
  • Reviews requested from real orders, never bought or written in-house
  • Clear consent and easy opt-out for marketing emails and WhatsApp messages
  • Store prices and stock match the Google & YouTube channel feed

Local SEO

Local SEO for Shopify Stores with a Studio or Pickup Point

Shopify can run your counter, pickup and local delivery as well as the website. When it does, a few local signals bring nearby buyers to your door.

If you sell through Shopify POS at a studio in Bengaluru or offer pickup from a warehouse in Gurugram, that location deserves its own Google Business Profile, matched to the location set up in Shopify and linked to a pickup page.

For Shopify local delivery, one page per city listing your pin codes, cut-off times and charges beats thin copies of the same page for every suburb.

Buyers also search in Hinglish and regional languages: "gift hamper ghar pe delivery", "diwali gift box online mumbai". We work those phrases into your pickup page and Business Profile description where they read naturally.

Most Shopify stores earn their sales from national searches and free listings, not the map pack. Local work matters only when you have a studio, POS counter, pickup point or local delivery zone.

  • BengaluruExample search: “coffee roaster indiranagar”
  • Delhi NCRExample search: “online order pickup gurgaon”
  • MumbaiExample search: “gift hamper studio bandra”
  • HyderabadExample search: “handmade candle shop jubilee hills”
  • KolkataExample search: “stationery store park street”
  • ChennaiExample search: “wooden toy store anna nagar”
  • GoaExample search: “handicraft gift shop panjim”
  • KochiExample search: “same day gift delivery kochi”

Who we work with

Shopify SEO for the Stores We See Most

Shopify stores share a platform, not a search problem. These are the kinds we plan for most often.

  • Gifting and hamper stores

Occasion collections, corporate gifting pages and delivery cut-offs that festival buyers look for.
  • Food and coffee stores

Roast dates, pack sizes and origin details on product pages, plus brewing and storage guides.
  • Shopify Plus stores

Larger catalogues, several Markets and checkout extensions, with third-party scripts kept under control.
  • Stores moving to Shopify

Redirect maps from WooCommerce, Magento or custom carts into Shopify's fixed URL paths.
  • Headless and Hydrogen storefronts

Server-rendered pages, sitemaps and canonical tags for stores using Shopify only as the back end.
  • Stores selling abroad

Markets subfolders, local currencies and translated collections for buyers in the Gulf, UK and US.

How we work

Our Shopify SEO Process

Six steps, with theme and app problems handled early because they affect every page on the store.

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Audit

We crawl the store, read the theme code, list every installed app and its scripts, and review Search Console, Merchant Center and Markets settings.

  2. Weeks 2–4

    Strategy & keyword mapping

Collections, product types and guides are matched to searches, and each tag page is marked keep, merge or noindex. You approve the plan before we touch the theme.

  3. Months 1–2

    Technical fixes

Product links, robots.txt.liquid, structured data and app clean-up ship in a duplicate theme, get previewed, then go live with your approval.

  4. Ongoing from month 2

    Content & on-page

We write collection intros, metafield-based product templates and blog guides, each linking into the collections that sell.

  5. Month 2+

    Authority & local signals

Brand mentions, gift-guide outreach and genuine reviews build trust. Pickup points and POS locations get their Business Profile work.

  6. Monthly

    Report & refine

Each month we report organic sales and page speed, list what shipped in the theme and agree the next priorities on a call.

FAQ

Shopify Store SEO FAQs

Straight answers on cost, timelines, compliance and ownership for Shopify store SEO in India.

How much does Shopify SEO cost in India?

Shopify SEO with Raqbash starts at ₹20,000 a month on the Launch plan, with a 6-month minimum. Growing stores usually need the ₹40,000 Growth plan, also 6 months, while Shopify Plus stores and large catalogues start from ₹75,000 a month with a 12-month minimum. The price depends on product count, how many apps and Markets you run and how much theme code needs changing. You get a fixed monthly quote after the free audit.

How long does Shopify SEO take to work?

Most Shopify stores see early movement in 2 to 3 months, once duplicate URLs, app scripts and schema are fixed and Google has recrawled the store. Specific product searches usually improve between months 3 and 6. Broad collection terms take 6 to 12 months, because marketplaces and older brands have more authority.

Can you guarantee first-page rankings for my Shopify store?

No. Nobody can promise a Google position, and agencies that do are either guessing or using tactics that put your store at risk. Google changes its systems often and shows marketplaces for many product searches. We commit to the work instead: a written plan, theme fixes shipped on time, collection and product content, and a monthly report that shows what moved and why.

Is Shopify bad for SEO?

No, Shopify is a solid base for SEO, but its defaults need work. It handles hosting, SSL, sitemaps and canonical tags for you. The weak spots are fixed URL prefixes such as /products/ and /collections/, duplicate collection paths created by themes, thin tag pages and scripts added by apps. All of these can be fixed in the theme and admin. Very few stores need to leave Shopify to rank well.

Why does my product appear under /collections/ URLs as well as /products/?

It happens because many themes link products through the collection you are browsing, which creates a second address for the same item. Shopify points the canonical tag at the /products/ URL, so it is not a penalty, but Google still crawls the extra paths and internal link value is split. We change the product card snippet in your theme so links go straight to /products/, then confirm the change in Search Console.

Do too many Shopify apps hurt SEO?

Yes, they can, mostly through page speed. Each app may load its own scripts and styles on every page, and some leave code in your theme after you uninstall them. That slows mobile pages. We measure what each app adds, remove leftover snippets and suggest which apps to keep, replace or drop, without losing features that bring in sales.

How should I set up Shopify Markets for SEO?

Give each important country its own subfolder or domain, translate the pages that matter and let shoppers choose their market instead of forcing a redirect. Shopify adds hreflang tags for Markets, but we still check them, along with currencies, translated handles and which pages are indexable. Automatic geolocation redirects can stop Google reaching other versions, so we usually replace them with a country selector banner.

Can you get my Shopify products into ChatGPT and Google's AI answers?

We can make your products easier for AI tools to read and cite, but no one controls what they recommend. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI features pull from product pages, policies, reviews and merchant feeds. We keep product facts, prices, shipping and return terms clear and identical across your store and Google feed. Each month we check which AI answers mention your store and improve the pages they miss.
