Key takeaways
- A yoga studio website should work as the booking system, not a brochure.
- In India, auto-renewing memberships run on e-mandates. After the first payment, debits of up to ₹15,000 skip extra authentication.
- Sell live group online classes on your website. Apple requires in-app purchase for group live classes sold inside an iOS app.
- Google's event listings exclude online-only and members-only classes.
- An intake form that asks about injuries needs a clear, separate consent notice under India's DPDP Rules 2025.
A yoga studio website is the online front desk of a studio. It shows the class schedule, takes bookings, sells class packs and memberships, and often runs online sessions. If yours only lists timings and a phone number, students still message you to book, and you still chase payments by hand.
This guide covers booking, membership renewals under Indian payment rules, software versus a custom build, online classes, and India's data protection law. It is written for studio owners in India and international studios weighing an Indian build partner.
What does a yoga studio website need to do?
A yoga studio website needs to do six jobs. It shows an accurate schedule, takes bookings against real capacity, sells drop-ins, packs and memberships, delivers online sessions, helps new students find the studio, and builds trust in the teachers. Design matters, but it exists to support those six jobs.
| Job | What it means in practice | Where it usually breaks |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Classes filtered by style, level and teacher | Timetable posted as an image |
| Booking | A mat reserved against a capacity limit | Bookings arrive on WhatsApp |
| Packs and memberships | Credits, expiry and auto-renewal | Expiry tracked in a spreadsheet |
| Online sessions | Live links and an on-demand library | Links pasted into chats before class |
| Discovery | Nearby students find you on Google | No booking link on the Google profile |
| Trust | Teacher profiles and clear policies | Stock photos and no names |

The trust row matters more than studios expect. A new student is deciding whether to trust a stranger with their body.
Real teacher profiles and a plain cancellation policy answer that question early.
How should a yoga class booking system work?
A yoga class booking system lets a student see a live schedule and reserve a spot against a fixed capacity. The student pays or uses a credit and gets a confirmation without contacting the studio. The system also has to handle the messy parts: waitlists, late cancellations, no-shows, and students booking from another time zone.
Schedule, capacity and waitlists
Every class needs a capacity number, usually the mat count for the room. When the class fills, the next booking joins a waitlist. When someone cancels, the first person on the waitlist gets the spot and a message.
Decide early whether a promoted student is charged automatically or asked to confirm. Both work. What fails is leaving it undecided until someone disputes a charge.
Let students filter by style, level, teacher and time of day. A beginner wants Level 1 Hatha on weekday evenings, not the whole week.
Cancellation windows and no-shows
A cancellation window is the cut-off before class after which a cancellation counts as late. Pick one, for example 6 or 12 hours, and apply it the same way to packs and memberships.
Set a rule for late cancellations and no-shows too: lose the credit, pay a fee, or get one warning first. Print it on the booking page and in the confirmation. A policy that lives only in the owner's head gets argued about every week.
Buttons that work on a phone
Most bookings happen on a phone. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 are the W3C standard for accessible web content. At Level AA, they set a minimum target size of 24 by 24 CSS pixels (opens in a new tab) for buttons and links. A "Book" button squeezed next to "Cancel" causes wrong taps, and wrong taps cause refund requests.
Time zones for online students
If you sell online classes abroad, show every class in the viewer's own time. A 6:30 am Indian Standard Time (IST) class starts at 2:00 am in London during British Summer Time.
Store class times in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and format them with the browser's standard Intl.DateTimeFormat API, which uses the viewer's time zone by default:
// 6:30 am IST class, stored in UTC, shown in the viewer's local time
const classStart = new Date("2026-10-05T01:00:00Z");
const label = new Intl.DateTimeFormat(undefined, {
weekday: "short",
hour: "numeric",
minute: "2-digit",
timeZoneName: "short",
}).format(classStart);Show local times in reminder emails too, or overseas students miss their first class.
How do class packs and memberships work online in India?
A class pack is a bundle of prepaid credits, for example 10 classes, that expires after a set period. A membership is a recurring plan that renews automatically. In India, automatic renewal runs on an e-mandate: a standing instruction the student approves once on a card, a prepaid wallet or Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Two Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules shape renewals. The first payment needs Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA), such as a one-time password (OTP) or UPI PIN. After that, RBI's April 2026 e-mandate framework allows recurring debits of up to ₹15,000 per transaction without AFA (opens in a new tab). The issuer must also send a notice at least 24 hours before each debit, and the student can opt out of that debit or the whole mandate.
The opt-out is what catches studios out. If a student stops a renewal from the alert and your booking system never hears about it, they keep booking unpaid classes. An annual plan above ₹15,000 needs AFA on every debit, so plan a reminder asking the student to approve it.
Since 1 October 2022, RBI rules allow only card issuers and card networks to store card data (opens in a new tab) in India. Your website keeps a gateway token, never the card number, so check whether saved payment methods can move before you switch software.
Fees need a second look too. UPI carries zero merchant discount rate (MDR), the fee banks charge merchants. Yet Razorpay's standard plan still charges a 2% platform fee plus GST on UPI payments (opens in a new tab), where GST is India's goods and services tax. On a ₹3,000 monthly membership, that is ₹60 plus GST per renewal.
Decide these rules before anyone builds anything:
- Pack sizes, prices and expiry periods
- Whether unused credits roll over, freeze or lapse
- Whether members can pause, and for how long
- What happens when a renewal fails: retry, grace period or suspension
Raqbash built a subscription commerce platform where customers pause, swap and upgrade plans themselves and failed payments are retried automatically, the same pattern a studio membership needs.
Should you use yoga studio software or build your own booking system?
Use yoga studio software if your classes follow standard rules and you run one or two locations. Build your own yoga class booking system when your pack and membership rules do not fit the software or platform fees grow faster than the studio. Building also makes sense when you want to own the student database.

Momoyoga, a booking platform for yoga studios, lists a Plus plan at €59 a month, billed annually (opens in a new tab), the tier that adds recurring memberships. A branded student app comes only with the €179 Custom plan. Prices are in euros, excluding value-added tax (VAT).
Illustrative example. Assume 120 members on a ₹3,000 monthly membership, so ₹3.6 lakh (₹360,000) a month. The Plus plan costs €708 a year (€59 × 12). Payment processing is extra on either route: at the 2% gateway fee above, it is ₹7,200 a month plus GST.
Payment fees scale with revenue on both routes. What differs is who controls the rules and holds the data. Before you sign, ask in writing whether you can export every student, booking and payment record.
If the table points you towards a build, custom website development is the route to scope it. Raqbash builds on Next.js, React and TypeScript, or on WordPress, with a working demo every two weeks, so you test the booking flow early.
How do you run online yoga classes from your website?
An online yoga class website does two things: it sells access to live-streamed classes, and it hosts an on-demand video library. Sell both on the website, send the live link only to booked students, and keep recordings behind a login tied to the student's pack or membership.
Free video tools cap group sessions. Google Meet's free tier allows up to 100 participants for up to 60 minutes per meeting (opens in a new tab), which cuts off a 75-minute class. Budget for a paid video plan from day one.
On-demand hosting is cheaper than many studios assume. Cloudflare Stream charges US$5 a month per 1,000 minutes stored (opens in a new tab) and US$1 per 1,000 minutes delivered. Illustratively, 50 one-hour classes is 3,000 minutes, about US$15 a month to store, and 10,000 minutes watched adds about US$10.
The bigger cost sits in app stores. Apple's App Review Guidelines say one-to-few and one-to-many real-time services must use in-app purchase (opens in a new tab) inside an iOS app, while one-to-one sessions and in-person services can use other payment methods. Apple takes a 15% commission under its Small Business Program (opens in a new tab) for developers with up to US$1 million in annual proceeds, and 30% above that.

On a ₹1,000 online pack sold in the app, a 15% commission is about ₹150 (illustrative, before taxes). On the website, the same pack carries only the gateway fee.

Raqbash built a virtual classroom solution that combines live video, recordings, scheduling, attendance and reminders, the same building blocks an online yoga timetable depends on.
What does good yoga website design include beyond calm visuals?
Good yoga website design is calm, fast and easy to use on a phone. The look sets the mood, but page speed and clear booking buttons decide whether a visitor books. Readable text, teacher profiles and plain policies then decide whether that visitor trusts the studio enough to come back.
Google measures page experience with Core Web Vitals. The targets are Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds (opens in a new tab), Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less. Each is measured at the 75th percentile of page loads. In plain terms: how fast the main content appears, how quickly a tap gets a response, and how much the layout jumps.
Most sites miss at least one Core Web Vital. The HTTP Archive Web Almanac 2025 found only 48% of mobile sites passed all three Core Web Vitals (opens in a new tab) in July 2025 data. On a yoga site, check the hero video and photography first.
In India, the phone is the main screen. In its June 2026 subscriber report (PDF), the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) counted 1,021.43 million mobile wireless broadband subscribers in India (opens in a new tab). Test the booking flow on a mid-range Android phone first.
Accessibility belongs in the brief. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 set minimum text contrast, which rules out pale grey on beige. As Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Founding Director (opens in a new tab), put it: "The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." For a studio teaching older students, that is practical.
Trust comes from teachers. Give each one a profile with training and styles taught. In India, list any Yoga Certification Board level a teacher holds; the board was set up by the Ministry of Ayush.
How do new students find a yoga studio on Google?
New students find a yoga studio through Google Search and Maps, so the Google Business Profile and the website must agree. Add a booking link to the profile, keep the name, address and hours identical everywhere, and add LocalBusiness structured data with a specific subtype such as HealthClub or ExerciseGym.
Structured data is code that describes a page to search engines in the schema.org vocabulary. On Google Business Profile, mark one booking link as preferred so students can book from the result.
Class markup is where studios waste effort. Google's event rich results require a physical location and exclude membership events (opens in a new tab), so online-only and members-only classes do not qualify. Public, in-person workshops and drop-ins can.
Google also stopped showing FAQ rich results from 7 May 2026 (opens in a new tab), and it removed Course info results in September 2025.

What does India's DPDP Act mean for student intake forms?
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) means a studio must tell students clearly why it collects their data and get consent for that purpose. An intake form asking about injuries, pregnancy or medical conditions needs a clear, separate consent notice, and children's classes need verifiable parental consent.
The DPDP Rules 2025, notified in November 2025, give organisations 18 months to comply in phases. The Rules also set penalties of up to ₹250 crore (₹2,500,000,000) (opens in a new tab) for failing to keep reasonable security safeguards. Your studio is the Data Fiduciary, the party that decides why and how data is processed, so the duty stays with you even when a vendor holds the data.
A practical intake form:
- Asks only what the teacher needs to teach safely
- Explains in one sentence why each health question is asked
- Keeps health answers out of marketing lists
- Limits which staff can see the answers
SMS reminders in India need Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) registration with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the sender, headers and templates. WhatsApp reminders change cost from 1 October 2026, when Meta starts charging per message for utility messages (opens in a new tab) inside the 24-hour customer service window.

What does a yoga studio website cost to build and run?
A yoga studio website's cost depends on scope more than page count. The biggest drivers are booking and membership logic, payments, online classes, the number of locations, and whether you build or configure software. No reliable public benchmark exists for yoga sites, so compare quotes line by line.
Ask every quote to price these lines separately:
- Booking rules: capacity, waitlists, cancellation windows
- Packs and memberships: credits, expiry, pauses, renewals
- Payments: gateway setup, UPI, cards, refunds
- Online classes: video plan, hosting, access control
- Content and compliance: teacher profiles, photography, consent notices, messaging setup
Buyers often miss year-two costs: hosting, maintenance, software or video plans, payment fees and message charges. Ask each vendor to price the second year too.
For price ranges by type of site, see our guide to website development cost in Ahmedabad.
Studios in Gujarat can see how we handle yoga website development in Ahmedabad, including class packs, waitlists and UPI checkout.
If you are weighing booking software against a custom build, scope the work with the Raqbash team in Ahmedabad before you commit. We map your class types, pack and membership rules, payments and online sessions, then recommend an approach, a stack and an indicative budget. Builds run in two-week sprints with a working demo after each, one named point of contact through launch, and maintenance plans for updates, backups and monitoring. Start a project brief and a person replies within one business day.
