Key takeaways
- Indicative SEO retainers in India run from roughly ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000 a month, and the figure depends on site size, technical debt and content volume rather than on the agency's postcode.
- Google states plainly that no one can guarantee a number one ranking, so any Ahmedabad proposal containing a ranking guarantee should be set aside.
- Google's own guidance is that some changes show up in search within hours while others take several months, which is why SEO is scoped in quarters.
- The biggest hidden cost is not the retainer. It is whether the agency implements technical fixes or only recommends them and waits for your developer.
- As of 2026, Google's position is that optimising for its generative AI features is still ordinary SEO, so a separate AEO or GEO line item deserves scrutiny.
SEO in Ahmedabad is normally bought as a monthly retainer, and for most small and mid-sized Indian businesses the realistic budget sits somewhere between ₹25,000 and ₹1,50,000 a month depending on scope. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the practice of making a website easier for search engines to crawl, understand and rank, so buyers find you without you paying for each click.
The band is wide because scope varies enormously. A five-page local service site and a two-thousand-page property portal are not the same job, and pricing them the same way is how buyers end up disappointed. This guide breaks the number down into what you are actually buying, how long each part takes, and which decisions move the price most.
The demand side explains why the question keeps coming up. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported 1,092.79 million internet subscribers in India at the end of March 2026 (opens in a new tab), in a PDF performance-indicator report. Almost every buyer your Ahmedabad business wants is now searching before they call.
What does SEO in Ahmedabad actually cost?
There is no fixed price, and any agency quoting one before seeing your site is guessing. What follows are indicative monthly bands for work delivered in India, based on the senior hours and deliverables each band realistically buys. They are ranges, not quotes, and they assume a single language, a single domain, and a site already live on a maintainable platform.
| Monthly band (India) | USD equivalent | Roughly what it buys | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹25,000 to ₹40,000 | $265 to $420 | Local SEO, Business Profile, on-page work on 10 to 15 pages, 1 to 2 articles | Single-location service business |
| ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 | $420 to $790 | The above plus technical implementation, schema markup, 3 to 4 articles, light digital PR | Growing SMB, one city, one sector |
| ₹75,000 to ₹1,20,000 | $790 to $1,260 | Multi-location or multi-category, migration support, 6 to 8 articles, sustained link work | Multi-branch or multi-product business |
| ₹1,20,000 to ₹1,50,000+ | $1,260 to $1,580+ | Large catalogue or portal, dedicated strategist, engineering time reserved monthly | Marketplace, portal, funded platform |

Source: Raqbash indicative scoping bands, September 2026. Converted at an assumed rate of ₹95 to US$1 on 11 September 2026. These are planning ranges for Indian delivery, not published market rates.
Two things about the cost table matter more than the numbers themselves. First, every band assumes a defined scope. A retainer without a named page list and a named deliverable count is not a price, it is a subscription. Second, the bands describe India. The same scope bought in the United States or the United Kingdom carries a different figure entirely. Do not quote these numbers without saying they describe India.
Below roughly ₹25,000 a month in India, something has to give. Usually it is either senior review time or the source of the backlinks, and the second one is the expensive kind of saving.
What an SEO retainer includes, line by line
A retainer is not one service. It is five or six workstreams sharing a monthly invoice, and you are entitled to see the split.
- Audit and diagnosis. A crawl, a Google Search Console review, a Core Web Vitals reading and a competitive gap analysis. Heaviest in month one, then quarterly.
- Keyword and page mapping. Deciding which page owns which query. Cheap to do, expensive to get wrong.
- On-page work. Titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links, content improvements on named pages.
- Technical implementation. Schema markup, crawl fixes, redirects, page speed. This is where retainers diverge most.
- Content production. The single largest variable. Four researched articles a month is a different cost base from one.
- Off-page and digital PR. Earning editorial links. Slow, and the line item most often faked.
- Reporting. Monthly numbers tied to enquiries, not to a position tracker screenshot.
Ask for the monthly hours behind each line. An agency that cannot answer is selling you a package name. Our own SEO services in Ahmedabad are scoped this way, with each workstream priced against named deliverables before anything is signed.
How long does SEO take to show results?
Plan in quarters. Google's own starter guide gives timings that range from hours to several months (opens in a new tab) for a change to register, and advises waiting a few weeks before judging whether a change helped. That is the honest answer, and it applies globally, not only in India.
Here is the shape a typical twelve-month programme takes. The milestones are indicative and depend on the state of the site you start from.
| Period | What moves | What does not yet |
|---|---|---|
| Month 1 to 2 | Crawl errors, indexed page count, Core Web Vitals | Positions, traffic |
| Month 3 to 4 | Impressions, long-tail positions, map-pack visibility | Head terms, revenue |
| Month 5 to 8 | Organic sessions, enquiry volume, mid-tail positions | Category-defining terms |
| Month 9 to 12 | Compounding traffic, competitive terms, cost per lead | Nothing; this is where the case is made |

A worked example from our own work: the property listing portal we rebuilt ran an SEO-first programme alongside the build, and its organic growth accumulated across months one, three, six and twelve rather than arriving in the first quarter. The project is a useful illustration of the shape, because the platform rebuild and the search programme were scoped together rather than handed between two vendors.
Treat a promise of meaningful movement in thirty days with suspicion. It usually means the site has one obvious technical blocker, which is a fix rather than a programme.
Why two Ahmedabad SEO quotes for the same site differ by three times
Start with the thing neither quote can offer. Google's guidance on hiring an SEO warns against anyone promising first place in results (opens in a new tab), because no provider controls where a page lands. Any proposal that includes a ranking guarantee has already told you something about how it will spend your money.
Past that, the gap is usually these five lines.
| Line item | Low-cost proposal | Senior proposal |
|---|---|---|
| Technical fixes | Listed in a document | Implemented in your codebase |
| Content | Volume, lightly researched | Fewer pieces, subject-matter input |
| Links | Bought or directory-based | Editorial, earned, slower |
| Reporting | Position screenshots | Enquiries and cost per lead |
| Review | Junior executes unreviewed | Senior reviews before anything ships |

The links row is where the real risk sits. Google's spam policies treat paid links used to lift rankings (opens in a new tab) as link spam, alongside low-quality directory links and widely distributed footer links. The same policies note that sites breaking them may rank lower or not appear in results at all. A cheap retainer that quietly buys links is not a saving, it is a deferred cost.
Six factors that move the price most
- Site size and template count. Twelve pages is a fixed job. Two thousand generated listing pages is an ongoing one.
- Technical debt. A slow site costs more to fix than a fast one. Globally, the 2025 HTTP Archive Web Almanac found that 48% of mobile sites passed all three Core Web Vitals in 2025 (opens in a new tab), so more than half the web starts behind. Whether yours does decides how much engineering time the first quarter needs.
- Competition in your category. Ahmedabad real estate and education are contested; a niche B2B component supplier is not. If your sector is image-heavy, look at real estate website development in Ahmedabad for how much of the SEO work is really front-end engineering on galleries and listing templates.
- Content volume. The largest single lever. Google is explicit that content length alone does not affect ranking (opens in a new tab), so pay for research depth rather than for word counts.
- Local versus national scope. Local adds Google Business Profile management, citation consistency and map-pack work on top of the site.
- Whether the site needs rebuilding first. Sometimes the honest answer is that the retainer is premature. If the platform is the constraint, the website development cost in Ahmedabad is the number to look at before the SEO one.
On the technical side, the thresholds are public and worth knowing before you accept a performance line item. Google asks for Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) within 2.5 seconds (opens in a new tab), with Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) under 0.1. Those are global thresholds, not Indian ones.
Consider an illustrative case. A ten-page Ahmedabad services site fails LCP on mobile. The fix is image compression, a font preload and one render-blocking script removed: two or three days of front-end work. Now assume the same fault on a listing portal with forty templates. The audit is the same; the implementation is six weeks. Same diagnosis, very different invoice. The assumption here is that both sites have a maintainable codebase and an available deployment path.
Responsiveness is the other threshold, and Google sets it at Interaction to Next Paint (INP) below 200 milliseconds (opens in a new tab). The 2025 Web Almanac analysis found that 77% of mobile sites already recorded a good INP score in 2025 (opens in a new tab), so if yours does not, the cause is normally a small number of heavy scripts rather than the whole architecture.
It helps to know where most sites lose the speed battle. The Web Almanac reported that 62% of mobile pages fail to set explicit dimensions on at least one image (opens in a new tab), which is one of the cheapest faults to fix and one of the most common.
What should AI search optimisation cost you?
Less than you are being quoted, in most cases. Google's 2026 guidance on generative AI features is unusually direct: it treats generative AI optimisation as ordinary SEO (opens in a new tab). The same systems that rank pages ground the AI answers.
The same Google guidance lists things you do not need to pay anyone to do. In its 10 July 2026 update, Google states that Google Search disregards llms.txt files (opens in a new tab), that there is no requirement to break content into small chunks, and that structured data is not required for generative AI search, although it remains worth having for rich results.
Three things are worth paying for in 2026, and they are the same three as before: content with a genuine point of view that a model cannot produce from common knowledge, a site that can actually be crawled and indexed, and an accurate Google Business Profile, which Google names as a route to visibility in AI responses for local businesses. If a proposal has a separate AEO or GEO line with a separate fee, ask what it contains that the SEO line does not.
What goes wrong in month four
Month one to three is setup, and everyone is pleased. Month four is when the problems surface.
- Ownership of accounts. Check who holds your Google Business Profile. Google requires authorised representatives, which explicitly includes third-party SEO companies, to hand a Business Profile back on the owner's request (opens in a new tab). Put that in the contract anyway.
- The developer queue. The agency delivers a fix list and your team cannot ship it. Either buy implementation or reserve developer time in advance.
- Reporting drift. The monthly report quietly shifts from enquiries to impressions when enquiries stop moving. Agree the two or three metrics in month one and hold them.
- A migration nobody told SEO about. A redesign or replatform without redirect planning can undo a year of work in a weekend.
One more, specific to 2026. Google has stated that E-E-A-T is not a ranking factor (opens in a new tab), so a proposal built around buying E-E-A-T signals is selling a concept, not a mechanism.
How to compare SEO proposals in Ahmedabad
Put every proposal through the same eight questions.
- What is the named page list for month one?
- How many senior hours a month, split by workstream?
- Who implements technical fixes, you or us?
- Where will the links come from, named?
- Which two metrics define success, agreed in writing?
- Who owns the Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile accounts?
- What happens to the work if we stop after six months?
- Show me one client whose traffic did not grow, and what you did.
The last question tells you more than the first seven. If you would rather scope the work than compare it, you can start a project with our team.
Working with an Ahmedabad SEO team
Raqbash scopes before it prices. An audit comes first, then a written scope naming the pages, the technical fixes and the content volume covered by the retainer, so you can see what each rupee buys. Because the engineers and the search team sit in the same office in Ahmedabad, technical fixes go into your codebase rather than into a recommendations deck. You get a named point of contact and monthly reporting that runs to enquiries rather than positions. To scope a programme against your site, talk to our Ahmedabad SEO team.
